The DRC is a three-person body appointed by the Board of Directors (BOD) with two alternate members to serve when one of the three members is unavailable or may have a conflict of interest. The Chair of the DRC must be one of the BOD members. Current members of the DRC are listed on the Contacts page. The BOD has the power to appoint or remove members of the DRC only. All decisions of the DRC are independent of the BOD and final—except as outlined in BOD Resolution #3 of 2004 (Appeal process for decisions of DRC) located in the “Important Reference Documents” section. None of the members of the committee are required to be an architect or have any other particular qualifications for membership. The DRC may employ professional consultants and/or architects to assist in the review of designs and construction inspections of new homes and/or modification projects. The DRC may establish fees for the review/inspection process at its discretion.
The operating document of this committee is the Design Guidelines (last revised July 2020) which applies to the development of a home as well as other improvements on your Lot in CV. These Guidelines include such matters as the height, color, massing, cut/fill, building materials, landscaping, etc. The Committee’s purpose is to assist homeowners or those planning to build a home in CV to protect and enhance property values, sustain the quality of the environment, and promote harmony in residential design. The DRC strongly urges owners, their designers and the builder/contractor to reach out to a member and/or Chair of the DRC prior to beginning the design phase of a residence, or when making any change(s) in the natural state of a Lot. This action will greatly facilitate the modification/new plan approval process with the minimal need for redesign/rework.
Current homeowners are reminded that they must submit plans for the outside repair, modification, or alteration of their existing home/lot before proceeding with any improvements. If a homeowner is unsure if prior approval is needed, please contact the DRC for advice. The Landscape Committee assists the DRC with landscape requests and plans on new builds. The DRC may reach out to other owners concerning the impact of a new build, a major remodel or a landscaping decision that may impact their home/lot and/or any adjacent common area. The DRC is not bound by any advice given but will consider that advice in reaching its final decision. Under the CV Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCRs), the DRC is the final authority on the approval of any development plans, not the BOD. Approval of any new residence plans by the City of Sedona does not indicate approval of the CV DRC as our decisions supersede all others. The City of Sedona is responsible for all permits on remodels or new builds and the DRC assumes no responsibility for lack of permits or faulty construction. Its purpose is to ensure harmony to the community through the design process.
The DRC may, at any time, and at its sole discretion, adopt, amend, and repeal by majority vote, the Design Guidelines. The most current copy may be accessed on this Crimson View HOA website or the HOAMCO owner’s website via the Caliber Portal.
